Spokesperson for Winsford Wharton
Margaret, you were born and bred in the Black County, in Wolverhampton?
That’s right, my Dad was a pub landlord - and a staunch Labour supporter! I’ve lived in Winsford nearly 15 years. I’ve got three wonderful grown-up children and my partner is Ken. I’ve recently retired after working with young children and elderly people for most of my life.
How did you become a Conservative supporter?
Our family always used to talk politics! As I got older I realised more and more that I believe in all the things Conservatives stand for. The biggest influence on me was Margaret Thatcher – I think she was wonderful.
Describe yourself in three words.
Loyal. Cheerful. Hard-working.
Why do you want to serve the people of Gravel and Wharton?
Because I think Winsford is on the up and those of us who live and work here deserve the best we can offer. I think together we can really bring new vitality into the area…and that’s what I want to work for.
Why should residents vote for you?
If I set out to do a task, I complete it – I don’t give up if the going gets tough. I have the residents’ interests at heart and I will do my utmost for them.
One thing you most want to achieve if you were elected as a Councillor?
Keep the council tax down and help the elderly. Oh dear, that’s two, isn’t it?
What should be on your epitaph?
She was always a trier and she always listened.
What are we least likely to hear you say?
I give up.
What do you understand by the Big Society?
If we all contributed to our community just a little, it would make a huge difference.
