Spokesperson for Winsford Over & Verdin
Susan, you’re a Mum, businesswoman and student from a Labour-supporting Sikh family…and you went mountain climbing in the Himalayas to relax!
I’m very bad at doing nothing…I have to be busy! I was born in Birmingham where my Dad was a bus driver and Labour city councillor, but I’ve lived in Winsford for 18 years and have run three businesses here over the years. I’ve got two children – a girl and a boy - and I’m studying for my Master’s degree in Counselling and Psychology because I would like to be a counsellor as well as a Councillor!
What made you support the Conservatives when your family are Labour activists?
I deeply believe that Conservative values are the best: Being responsible for yourself, your family and your community; compassion for others; freedom to make your own way in life through hard work…and support to do so if you need it.
Describe yourself in three words.
Committed. Loyal. Honest.
Why do you want to serve the people of Verdin?
I’ve lived here so long that I really do understand Winsford and Winsford people and I have insight into what makes this community tick. I believe Winsford is a nice place and has a great future if we can just get things done. I’m already doing things – for instance I’m the Neighbourhood Watch Co-Ordinator for the town, helping people prevent crime in their street.
Why should residents vote for you?
Because I will do my utmost to do whatever the community wants me to; I will listen to what they tell me and always represent their best interests.
One thing you most want to achieve as a Councillor.
Only one? Well, I feel for the youngsters round here because they complain about having nothing to do. My main priority is to give them worthwhile and enjoyable activities – to get them off the streets and out of trouble.
What would you like to be your epitaph?
She was a do-er not a spectator.
What are we least likely ever to hear you say?
There’s not much we can do to improve that.
What does the Big Society mean to you?
All of us getting together and doing as much as we can for everybody, through fairness and sharing.
